CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

We have broken ground on the foyer and sanctuary renovation! Praise God for His provision of a permit, of diligent and capable volunteers, and of most of the funds required to complete this project!

This is a very comprehensive project that involves many trades—excavation, concrete, framing, drywall, cabinetry, countertops, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, flooring, trim, etc. It takes as long as four months to build the average home in America. Our goal is to compress this type of schedule in to just over two months! This is a very tight schedule.

OUR TARGETED COMPLETION DATE IS APRIL 20.  Although unforeseen challenges and delays are common in remodel situations, we have every intention of finishing a final inspection on April 20 if possible. Of course, there will be some straggling items and details to resolve after this, but we anticipate worshiping in the new building on Sunday, April 29, if no unforeseen delays arise.

During the next two months, we appreciate everyone’s patience and the great help of many of you in the process. During construction, please be mindful of two important things:

1)  ACCESS – Parts of the building will be unsafe over the next two months, and parts of the building will be absolutely FILTHY even on Sundays. We do not want to afford the money or the schedule delay involved in doing a complete clean of the building before every Sunday, so we will appreciate everyone’s patience with last-minute determinations of Sunday School locations, etc.  There will definitely be a period of time when access to the children’s wing will not be possible. We will keep you abreast via the Connect, and we will do everything possible to minimize these inconveniences without sacrificing budget and schedule.

2)  INSPECTORS – If at any time an inspector or anyone outside the church shows up on site, any one of us on site will appear to represent the church. For this reason, please do not discuss any matters with an inspector (or anyone else outside the church) for ANY REASON. Call Paul Holst immediately. We want Paul and ONLY Paul to discuss any matters related to the building (no matter how apparently simple or obvious) with city inspectors, and we want Paul and ONLY Paul granting inspectors access to the building during this period of construction.

Thanks to all of you for your incredible support of this project. You are all critical contributors—whether through prayer, through finances, or through labor. We especially covet your prayers during the next two months. Thank you!

In Christ,
The Future Facility Team

TABLETALK

The February 2012 issue of Tabletalk features articles examining what Jonathan Edwards called charity as described by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. This passage rings familiar to many people on account of its frequent use (or misuse) in wedding ceremonies and other occasions demanding a proclamation of love. Yet the truth of Christian love as laid out in 1 Corinthians 13 reaches far beyond these settings. Tabletalk contributors include R.C. Sproul, Joel Beeke, D.A. Carson, Michael Haykin, Joe Holland, Steven J. Lawson, Keith Mathison, Ray Ortlund, John R. Sittema, R.C. Sproul Jr., and Cal Thomas. Tabletalk features articles about topics central to the Christian faith and daily, in-depth Bible studies with featured columns by contributors such as David Murray and Mark Ross. Free copies are available on the book table.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Here’s your chance to get involved! It takes a lot of people to make our Sunday mornings happen, from brewing coffee and handing out bulletins to making sure Pastor Marsh’s microphone is on and all the doors get locked when the morning is over. Although most tasks are easy, each task is crucial to our Sunday morning and requires someone to carry it out. That someone can be you! Below is a list of opportunities that require very little effort beyond what you’re already doing every Sunday—showing up with a smile. Many of you are already serving in one or more of these areas and we are all so thankful for your help. Please consider signing up for at least one area of service once a month.

  • Greeter: Smile and make people feel welcome before the morning service. Also, direct visitors to the various classrooms.
  • Usher: Help people find seats and assist with passing pew pads and offering plates.
  • Hospitality: Help set up and clean up Sunday morning refreshments.
  • Building Lock-up: Make sure the exterior doors are locked after the Sunday morning service. You’ll be assigned the necessary keys.
  • Soundboard Technician: It looks complicated, but it’s quite easy. All you need is a good ear and the ability to pay attention. Plus you will be trained two Sundays before you run the board on your own.
  • Senior Saints Driver: Pick up two ladies who can no longer drive on your way to church. Both ladies live in the same location near Jefferson Road. You will be given the exact address.
Please click here to sign up for a Sunday Morning Service. Once you sign up, the person in charge of that area will contact you and give you all the necessary information and supplies.

THE CARTERS ARE HERE

The Carter family was so blessed to come home to a well furnished apartment that felt like home. They are so thankful to the many of you that loaned, purchased, and donated so many quality items to make their furlough very enjoyable. Now that they have had a chance to settle, they have been able to evaluate what needs they still have. Here is a list of things they could use:

  • Toilet brush, toilet plunger
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Microwave cart
  • Outdoor grill (nothing too fancy, propane or charcoal would great)
  • Mop
  • Paper shredder

If you have any of these items for donation, please bring them to church on Sundays or by the church office Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Questions? Contact Dave Carter by email.

EDISION FUND FOR ADOPTION

The Edison Fund is a $5,000 revolving loan fund administered by the Abba Fund and available to member families of Christ Community Church to assist with the expenses of adoption. Named in honor of our own Edison Van Eerden, it is a resource the church wants to see used over and over again, as well as grown through additional gifts. Adoption by Christians changes a child’s life and shows our world a picture of the Gospel like few others. If you want to learn more about the Edison Fund, speak to any member of the Session.

ATTENTION CCC CONSIGNORS AND PAST CONSIGNMENT SALE SHOPPERS

Thank you for supporting our Children’s Consignment Sale over the past 10 years. The Lord has blessed us with a new facility located at 811 Jefferson Road, near the intersection of Jefferson and West Friendly Avenue. Our church is currently undergoing renovations, which means that we will be unable to host our spring sale this year, but please watch for announcements later this year about a possible fall sale. Meanwhile, we hope you will come visit us at our new location. We are very excited about the new opportunities for ministry that await us in this part of Greensboro. Happy consigning this spring!

COLLEGE STUDENT MINISTRY

Do you have a student at college? Would you like them to be covered in prayer, as well as with occasional notes of encouragement and gift cards for Starbucks, Wendy’s, etc? If so, please contact Candy Smith (bsmith70@bellsouth.net) or Bonnie Johnson (bonnie@trslaw.com) with names and addresses. They’ll organize getting letters and small gifts to your student and have them prayed for. If you are interested in helping write letters, praying for the students, or purchasing gift cards, you can also contact Candy or Bonnie and let them know the ways you’d love to help.

ANGELS NEEDED IN OUR NURSERY

Our nursery is brimming with babies and we would love for each willing member to get his or her chance to care for our little ones. We are reducing the commitment of our faithful nursery volunteers to every other month so that our adults can worship together as much as possible. We need five new adults that are members of our congregation to come alongside our current volunteers. If you are willing to serve every other month during the worship hour, please contact Adair Bolton via email or by phone at 336‐510-8536.

SUPPORT MINISTRY TEAM

We would love for you to join the team of people who help out with many different things when there is a need (meals, childcare, etc). This is a wonderful way to serve God and others. If you are interested in finding out more information contact Tricia Goad by email or by calling 288-2365.

WEEKLY E-NEWSLETTER

Did you know that we send out a weekly e-newsletter called Connect E-Letter? If you would like to receive the newsletter just let the Tricia Goad know by email.

WORLD MAGAZINE

We’d like to introduce you to a fine example of a source that reflects biblical standards: WORLD Magazine. It’s a bi-weekly news magazine that upholds the inerrancy and the authority of God’s Word while reporting and editorializing man’s activity in God’s world. In WORLD, there are news reports from field reporters that travel the world – even to the war zones. Reviews of movies, books, music, and other cultural curiosities provide worthy critique from a biblical point of view. Theologians and thinkers write weekly, thought-provoking columns that shed biblical light on contemporary issues – politics, court cases, cultural trends, education, Christian living – basically all that God has made. You might say it is a “Christian” Newsweek, Time, U.S. News, or the like, but with a fundamentally different set of principles, standards, and philosophies, all centered on the truth of God’s Word.

Give WORLD a try: Support kingdom work and drink from an uncontaminated source, one that has been published for over two decades. If it’s of interest to you, let the church office know. Sample copies are available on the church book table. To subscribe click here.
