Dear Friends in Christ,
One of the joys of being a minister is that I not only get to see a bird's-eye view of life within the body of Christ Community Church, but I also often get to see the details of what Christ is doing in our midst.
The Lord is at work! Let me share a handful of opportunities with you, opportunities for you to witness the Lord's work and, in some cases, share in it.
This Sunday night, we will hear a report from our team that recently traveled to Haiti to serve for a week at the Mission of Hope Orphanage. Plan to eat a Haitian rice-and-beans supper with us at 6 p.m. and then stay for a time to hear and see how the Lord worked during this trip through both the "goers" and the "senders" in our congregation.
One of the hallmarks of the church of Jesus Christ in the book of Acts and throughout history is that we help our own. Paul reminds us in his letter to the Galatians, "As we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith." Friends, we have opportunity! With these trying economic times adding to the usual difficulties of life in a fallen world, there are several in our midst who have need. Though I cannot speak in specifics concerning these brothers and sisters, let me assure you that they have significant needs that cry out for our merciful attention. Would you be willing to pray about what the Lord would ask you to set aside financially as an offering to help those among us who have need? If so led, please make a check payable to "Christ Community Church" and note "Benevolence" on the memo line. You may place it in the offering plate this Sunday during worship or mail it to the church to the attention of our treasurer. Your leaders will continue to disburse funds on an as-needed basis, acting wisely and redemptively on your behalf as we have done in the past.
The Session will be meeting on Monday night for its regular monthly meeting. Among other things, we will be reviewing the financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011, which will show that our level of giving has exceeded our expenses, leaving us with a surplus for the year. We should all give praise to the Lord for that.
We began our new fiscal year July 1, and our treasurer popped into my study earlier today to remind me that the new year includes some areas where we agreed in our budget to increase funding. This month, support to our three foreign missionary families will increase, and we will begin our support of James Dickson's work to plant a church in Trussville, Alabama (in the greater Birmingham area). As you know, when a congregation votes to approve a budget, we implicitly state that we intend to fund it, so we thank you in advance for doing just that: giving faithfully and sacrificially to the Lord and to the work entrusted to us.
Please continue to pray for our property sale. Factors such as our current market and economy, dealing with potential buyers who are part of large organizations, and working through various local ordinances make moving property such as ours a slow process. Still, we remember that God's timing is always perfect. He's never late; His arm is not short. And even as we continue to trust the Lord to bring this property sale to a conclusion according to His wise providence, He bids us to keep asking Him for our hearts' desire-that good news will soon be ours.
This Sunday I will be preaching from Mark 14:22-25, where Jesus, in the midst of sharing the Passover with His disciples, institutes the Lord's Supper. He puts before the disciples His impending death, and in so doing He puts before us His atoning sacrifice that God accepted as full payment for our sins. Appropriately and in the Lord's timing it is our congregation's Sunday to celebrate the Lord's Supper, so we will both hear the Word of God on the subject of Communion and see the Word of God as we participate together in the meal.
I look forward to this Lord's Day, as we together worship our Passover Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ
Your pastor,
Bryan

Our Book Table
| |
Have you visited the Book Table lately? There are new selections added regularly. Every book, booklet, and pamphlet has been reviewed by one of our pastors to make sure that we are offering you only the best of the best. There are helpful resources on family life, studying the Bible, some key Biblical doctrines, and growing in your Christian life. Prices are marked on the back of the books. Simply place your payment in the wood lock box.

Have you ever asked, "What is a Reformed church?" or "What do you mean by Reformed? Many of us have even after years of attending a reformed church. In "What is a Reformed Church", you'll get a booklet-length answers that goes over all the basics of what make a church reformed . Stephen Smallman, author of Understanding the Faith, has provided a booklet that pastors and churches will find eminently useful.
While teaching inquirers classes, Smallman writes, "I got a sense of the kind of issues that are in peoples' minds as they struggle to understand and appreciate the core doctrines and traditions of the church. Smallman will review historical roots and the doctrines of Scripture, divine sovereignty, the covenant, the law, the church, and the kingdom.
This is available on the book table.
All of the resources are offered well below retail price, but we do not want price to be an issue. Our policy is for you to take what you will read and to pay what you can. A small sticker with the price of each item is on the back cover. Our purpose is to get good resources into the homes of our members and visitors. This is not a money-maker, but we hope to cover our costs.

Let's Pray Together This Week
| Saturday, July 16 Pray for our worship tomorrow morning at CCC. Ask the Lord to stir in each of us a longing for heaven and to give us a foretaste tomorrow as we gather to declare His glory. Pray for each person to have an open heart to the Spirit's work applying God's Word to them. Ask Him, especially, to bring conversions in the lives of those present who do not know and love Christ.
Sunday, July 17 Pray for our Sunday Supper tonight. Pray that as we hear reports of the wonderful works God accomplished in Haiti for and through our mission team members that our hearts are stirred. Pray that God gives each of us a renewed zeal for the ministry he has set before us and a desire to stretch ourselves to accomplish more for Him. Thank the Lord for the hands that will prepare our meal tonight. Pray that we have sweet fellowship amongst our church family.
Monday, July 18 Pray for the spiritual health of our congregation today. Pray that during a time of much change that God would strengthen us and unite our congregation with the goal to whole-heartily serve Him despite any challenges, difficulties, or emotional distress. Ask God to supply abundant joy and perseverance as we labor for Him and make it our goal to please Him in all we say, do and think.
Tuesday, July 19 Pray earnestly this week for the sale of our facilities and land. We expect a number of proposals this week and hope to be in final negotiations soon with the eventual purchaser. Ask the Lord to bring "clean" offers that would yield sale proceeds sufficient for us to be debt-free in a new facility well-suited for Gospel ministry.
Wednesday, July 20 Thank the Lord today for bringing those in our Body who have special physical and developmental challenges. Ask Him to make us a congregation that sees and delights in the image of God stamped upon them -- and us all. Pray that our love for them would be Gospel-driven and a witness to the world of Christ's power. Ask the Lord to guard them from the discouragement that our increasingly barbaric society throws at them.
Thursday, July 21 Pray for Christians in various forms of public leadership. Pray that they use their voice boldly to influence Godly change. Pray for the testimony of those that profess Christ as their Saviour, that they would live a life honoring to Him and be an example of a life transformed. Pray for our own testimonies as well, that we may be the example of Christ's love to others.
Friday, July 22 Pray for those in our midst that are in search of employment. Pray that God will provide for their needs both physically and emotionally. Ask God to guard them from worry and depression and to show Himself sufficient during a season utter dependence on Him. Ask God how you can be a blessing to those in need amongst our congregation.
