From The Pastor

bill's face

Dear Friends,

There is much news to share this week and little time to do it. Thus, I hope you are planning to stay for our congregational meeting and lunch on Sunday. Remember that lunch is provided by the church; we will have a basket at the head of the line if you want to put in a few dollars to help with the cost. All we ask is that those who are able to make a dessert bring enough to share.

Thank you for your response to our corporate call to prayer last week. We had excellent participation and I am pleased to tell you that the developments of the past few days are very encouraging. The congregation who desires to purchase our building and land received verbal approval yesterday for their loan. There are still a number of steps to take, but this is a huge advance; it seems that the Lord is beginning to show us as promising a future facility-wise as we already have congregationally. The transaction with the other church would involve a building swap between our two churches. I know that you all must be wondering where is it located, what it looks like, and when we will move. We plan to tell you all we know Sunday.  Earlier this morning, three members of our Future Facility Team, along with two of our elders and I, spent several hours walking through the facility, taking lots of photos and video, and discussing possible changes. We will have those to share with you at the congregational meeting on Sunday.

Also, at the risk of making him sound like a morning radio host, Jim Van Eerden will have a major concert announcement Sunday morning. Our church will be hosting an event in October that we hope will be a blessing to our community at several different levels, as well as people around the world.

We will begin Acts 2 this week. There are a few major turning points in redemptive history -- Creation, the Fall, the Incarnation, Good Friday, Resurrection, and Ascension. Next on that list is what takes place in Acts 2. In fact, it is the last major turning point that we are told will happen before Jesus returns.  I look forward to seeing you then.

Your friend,

If you are interested in helping write letters, praying for the students or making monetary donations for the purchase of gift cards, you can also contact Candy Smith or Bonnie Johnson and let them know the ways you'd love to help.

ABF Series Sunday Mornings  at 9:15 a.m.

In our Adult Bible Fellowship, we will take a careful look at church membership and our mission and vision for Christ Community Church. We want to consider questions like:
  • What is the Biblical basis for membership? Or is it just a custom?
  • Why all of these denominations? Isn't it sinful? Or does it actually help the unity of the Body of Christ in the world?
  • What is distinctive about our church from other good churches?
  • What should you expect from this church?
  • Finally, what should the Church expect from you?
As we approach a physical move, it is particularly important that we move forward together. This 5-week class and our discussion should be a timely help to us all. I hope you will plan to attend.

Our Book Table

Have you visited the Book Table lately? There are new selections added regularly.  Every book, booklet, and pamphlet has been reviewed by one of our pastors to make sure that we are offering you only the best of the best.  There are helpful resources on family life, studying the Bible, some key Biblical doctrines, and growing in your Christian life. Prices are marked on the back of the books.  Simply place your payment in the wood lock box.

Spiritual DepressionThis enduring collection of twenty-one sermons by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, each originally delivered at Westminster Chapel in London, carefully and compassionately analyzes an undeniable feature of modern society from which Christians have not escaped--spiritual depression. Christian people, writes Lloyd-Jones, too often seem to be perpetually in the doldrums and too often give this appearance of unhappiness and of lack of freedom and absence of joy. There is no question at all but that this is the main reason why large numbers of people have ceased to be interested in Christianity. Believing that Christian joy was one of the most potent factors in the spread of Christianity in the early centuries, Lloyd-Jones not only lays bare the causes that have robbed many Christians of spiritual vitality but also points the way to the cure that is found through the mind and spirit of Christ.

This book is available at the book table for $9.

All of the resources are offered well below retail price, but we do not want price to be an issue.  Our policy is for you to take what you will read and to pay what you can.  A small sticker with the price of each item is on the back cover.  Our purpose is to get good resources into the homes of our members and visitors.  This is not a money-maker, but we hope to cover our costs.

Let's Pray Together This Week

Saturday, September 24
Pray for our congregational meeting tomorrow that will be followed by lunch. Ask the Lord to give us wisdom, unity, clear direction, and a delight in one another and the evidences of His transforming grace as we walk together as a family of families.

Sunday, September 25
Pray today for the four families we are supporting in evangelism and church planting around the world. Ask the Lord to bless their worship of Him as they gather with other Christians in Alabama, California, a country in North Africa, and a country in Southeast Asia. Pray for the two children yet to be born among two of the families. Pray for their health, their family's needs, their encouragement in ministry, and great Kingdom fruit to come from their efforts.

Monday, September 26
Pray today for Bill, Bryan, and Mackay as they travel to Mobile, Alabama for several days to participate in the Expositors Conference at Christ Fellowship Baptist Church. Pray for their encouragement in their ministry of the Word, as well as their being sharpened to handle the Scriptures. Ask the Lord to bless their travels and protect their families while they are away.

Tuesday, September 27
Pray today for the Lord's blessing on the logistics of our building and property sale. Ask Him to bring this matter to a smooth conclusion that results in our being well-located and well-resourced for ministering Christ to our community and world. Pray for our Future Facility Team (Adair, Stacey, Morgan, Willis, Paul, and Colin) as they plan and coordinate a large number of details on multiple campuses. Ask the Lord to give them vigor and joy in their work.

Wednesday, September 28
Pray today for Val Casanova and David Armitage as they do the day-to-day work with our church's finances. Thank the Lord for their skills and talents, as well as their willingness to unsure our funds are handled with good stewardship, decency and maintain good order (1 Cor 14:40). Pray that they would have clear minds and joyful hearts as they do this important work.

Thursday, September 29
Pray for our three members who are serving away from home with the U. S. Army. Ken Kunkel is going through Chaplain training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina; pray for his training there, his ordination exam prep at night, and for Laura, Alayna, Austin, and Aiden while he is away. Pray for Silas Johnson who arrived last week at a Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan; ask the Lord to use this time in his life to draw him to Him. Finally, pray for Will Marsh at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he is training for the NC National Guard; ask the Lord to give him Christian friends there and joy in Christ.

Friday, September 30
Pray for our nation and her leaders. Ask the Lord for them to rule in righteousness and with equity, punishing what is evil and rewarding what is good. Pray for a revival of faith in Christ alone in our country. Ask the Lord to pour out His Spirit in great measure, brining conviction of sin, as well as reformation in the Church.
