Through no work of my own, God has chosen to bless me and my family very much. I was born into a strong Christian family and grew up attending the Methodist church every Sunday in Princeton, West Virginia. I felt God's call made effectual in my heart by the work of the Holy Spirit when I was 12 years old. God immediately began my sanctification process and has been teaching me ever since. Teaching me to understand the magnitude of my sinful nature and how truly amazing God's grace is when you realize that there is not one small piece of our being that can take credit for our salvation. As it is written in Ephesians, "it is the gift of God". I am an Electrical Engineer, graduating from West Virginia University in 1999 and then from graduate school at the University of Tennessee in 2001. I started work with Cypress Semiconductor in Austin, TX coming back to Tennessee a few months later to marry my wife, Adair, and whisk her away to Texas before she had a chance to change her mind. After 2 years in Austin, we moved to Denver, CO where we lived for four years. During that time I worked for Agere Systems and then later for RF Micro Devices designing cellular transceiver chips. After enjoying the mountains in Colorado, we decided to relocate to Greensboro, (RFMD headquarters) to start a family. Will was born in March of 2008 and a couple months later RFMD decided to exit our business and terminated around 400 jobs including my own. That action opened an opportunity for me and some of my colleagues to start our own design center in Greensboro. Our company name is Orthoradio and we design transceiver chips for 3G and LTE cellular handsets. We were blessed with our daughter, Adaiah, in June of 2010 and we are expecting a baby boy in January of 2012. Adair and I have been very active in the PCA churches where we were members in Texas and Colorado. We led small group bible study, taught Sr. High Sunday school, were youth leaders, and served in other various areas where there was need. We joined Christ Community Church in 2008 and are very excited to see God's Kingdom spread and to see the work God is doing in and through our church.

Raised in a Christian home in Sarasota, Florida, I have always known Christ and His salvation. My wife Pam and I have been married for 38 years, and we are happy to have our daughter Jen still worshiping with us at this church.
My favorite verse, and my inspiration, is from David's Psalm 51:12, "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation". There have been times in my life that I have had to walk with the knowledge that I am saved, which drove my faith, even when my feelings did not agree.
We came from Tampa to Greensboro and to Christ Community Church in 1993, and found a family of believers that loved Christ and each other. They quickly became our support team during our son Bryan's illness and eventual death in 1998. Even though our emotions were devastated for several years following his death, the facts of God's loving salvation carried us through that period.
I have seen that same loving Spirit growing in this church over the past few years. I am looking forward to seeing where God takes us, and excited to being a part of His work.

Bill Sykes
|
My name is Bill Sykes. I have been a member of Christ Community Church for 14 years. I am married to Barbara, we have 4 adult children and 6 grandchildren. I am a retired Accountant and worked in the field for over 50 years.
I became a Christian in 1987 in Urbana, Illinois. Since then my faith has grown mainly because of three things: 1- Bible Study Fellowship, 2- Promise Keepers and 3- The Grace Awaking Series by Charles Swindoll.
I have spent twelve years starting in 1994 in Bible Study Fellowship studying the Old and New Testaments because I wanted to learn as much I could about God's Word so I could live my life by it.
I first started attending Promise Keepers events back in 1995 and my last one here in Greensboro in 2005. I learned to love and honor my wife, love my family and love the brethren.
The Grace Awaking Series made me understand that I am saved by grace alone through faith and that I had nothing at all to do with my salvation. It was all God and His mercy. So I would sum up my testimony with a stanza from the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul".
My sin, o, the joy of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
With God's help I would consider it an honor to serve as an Elder of Christ Community Church.

Let's Pray Together This Week
|
Friday, November 25
On this day when our American culture kicks off the Christmas buying season, pray for the emptiness of possessions and the longing for the true Christmas to stir in the hearts of our neighbors and friends. Pray that the Spirit of God would stir a restlessness in them and that we would be prepared to tell of our Redeemer this year.
Saturday, November 26
Pray for us to come to worship tomorrow morning with eager hearts and minds. Ask the Lord to stir us to call the Sabbath a delight. Pray that we would approach God with reverence and awe, zealous for His glory and the building up of one another in Christ. As we come to the first of four songs from Luke 1-2, pray that He would "fill the hungry with good things" (Luke 1:53).
Sunday, November 27
Pray for our missionaries today in north Africa, southeast Asia, and Alabama as they worship in different settings. Ask the Lord to gather many worshippers of Him in those places in the years to come through these who have gone out from our congregation. Pray for the world, the flesh, and the Devil to be hindered from distracting or discouraging Art, Andrea, Dave, Rachael, Rob, Karen, James, Anna, and the ten children among their families. Ask the Lord to give them joy in their efforts and the resources they need on their fields.
Monday, November 28
Pray for our church staff as they do their work in unusual times of office disruption and unsettled routines where everything seems to take a little longer to complete. Ask the Lord to give them diligence and concentration as they do their work in a number of unusual places while office space is being established. Pray for them to focus their efforts on those duties and tasks which are eternally significant and important. Ask the Lord to guard them from the distraction of the urgent, but unimportant. Pray especially for our pastor as he completes several papers due later this week for his Doctor of Ministry program.
Tuesday, November 29
Pray for the Lord of the harvest to bring men and women to Christ through our conversations and relationships with our neighbors, co-workers, family, and friends. Ask the Lord to give each of us a great burden for the lost. Pray that we would be increasingly stirred to pray for and be equipped to speak to those who are perishing apart from Christ. Pray that our greatest motive in evangelism and discipleship would be for the glory of God to acknowledged and loved by more people.
Wednesday, November 30
Pray for our students and the Student Ministry meeting tonight at the Arispes' home. Ask the Lord to give Mackay Smith the right words as he teaches. Pray that our students would not compartmentalize the reign of King Jesus (which is no reign at all!), but would live under His lordship in every aspect of their lives. Pray that they would think Christianly about their friendships, school work, family relationships, and the technology that is so pervasive in their lives.
Thursday, December 1
Pray for those in our body who are mourning, discouraged or depressed. Pray that the joy of the Lord would be their strength and that they would find His grace sufficient. Ask Him to make His strength perfect in their weakness. Pray that they would draw especially near to Christ in this season, finding Him to be gentle and lowly in heart.
Friday, December 2
Pray today for Rachael, Adair, and Lindsay as they all near the end of their pregnancies. Ask the Lord to keep them healthy, safe, and comfortable in these final weeks. Pray for the children they are carrying to be born healthy and to grow up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Pray for the covenant promises of God to be fulfilled in these children's lives -- that God would be faithful in Christ Jesus to these children as well as to their parents.
